The truck was in fairly good condition. A few months into owning the truck, we found oil in the radiator. We took it to a mechanic and he told us we had a cracked block... WebJan 27, 2012 · what I am using for this 390 460 swap. My 1950 f-1 does have the tube type cross member for the 390 already in the truck. I am using the stock front axle and steering box. I will be upgrading the brake system to disc brakes and dual master cylinder later and the same for the steering.

WebOct 17, 2010 · How they work is that the plates bolt onto the engine block, then the original 400 or 351 mounts bolt to these plates, and you can use the stock towers and everything. One other thing you will have to do is get a rear sump oil pan for the 460, and don't forget the oil pick-up tube and main cap bolt to support it as well. WebNov 2, 2008 · The 79 and later 460 engines are externally balanced, but I don't think it is the same balance as a 351M-400 engine. The 67-72 Ford trucks never had a 429-460 installed in them so no factory mounts for these years. They did put 429-460's engines in the 73 and later pickups. WebAug 7, 2012 · A 400 ford uses the SBF crankshaft bolt pattern which is not the same as 460 so the flywheel will not bolt up. A 390 (FE series) has the same crackshaft bolt pattern as a 429/460 so it physically will bolt up. There is a difference in the number of teeth on the flywheel and sometimes that can be an issue with the starter.
